PA Participant Killed in Gaza

Monday 03 March 08

 Abdul Karim al Haw

All of us in Public Achievement were deeply saddened to learn of the sudden death of a participant in our sister 'Popular Achievement' programme in Gaza. Abdul Karim al Haw was only 14 years old, and was killed during an Israeli attack on Gaza at the weekend during which as many as 100 Palestinians have lost their lives. He lived in the Jabalia refugee camp, one of the most heavily populated parts of Gaza.

Our deepest sympathies go to his family, our colleagues in the Quaker youth programmes and all his fellow participants in Popular Achievement. Their work is an inspiration to all of us, and we hope that these terrible events do not deter them from doing their important work promoting democracy and non-violence.

Amal Sabawi is the Director of the Quaker programmes in Gaza. She said today, "...we in Gaza are overwhelmed by the pain and suffering of young people and children who have no protection, and have been deprived of their right to life. We wish to end this injustice and to enable our young people and children to live in dignity, freedom, justice and trust. Young people in PA groups carry a message of love for life, and a determination to continue dreaming of peace and justice. Peace for all of us."

What are your thoughts about the situation in Palestine and especially for the young people there?
