International Youth Day
It is International Youth Day this Wednesday. The central theme this year will be "Youth and Climate Change: Time for Action". WIMPS will be covering this in more detail during the week but for more info now see here.


More on the Lisbon Treaty
There is an interesting piece in the Irish Independent on the Irish problem of the 'no' vote. It ponders on potential solutions and in a refreshing style criticises fellow journalists on opinion and coverage.


ADF Statement on coup d'etat in Mauritania
Following the coup d'etat in Mauritania where the generals overthrew the President Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi the Africa Democracy Forum have released a statement condemning the actions of the military generals and calling for immediate restoration of order.


Georgia/Russia Conflict
This story broke last week and has been covered in an overview here and also a range of comments here. An side of the conflict not readily covered by the media has been the cyberwarfare between Georgia and Russia.


The Olympics
In case you have been hiding under a rock China is hosting the Olympic games in Beijing. The opening ceremony was an impressive sight and has set the standard for the rest of the games and you can follow the games on BBC or RTE. Northern Ireland has some athletes at the games in both the Irish and UK teams, however Chinese censorship means no regional flags.
