Voters in the Republic will decide the fate of Europe's Lisbon Treaty this Thursday. Ireland is the only country in the EU to hold a public referendum and as the Lisbon Treaty required all countries to pass it, essentially Irish voters get to decide on behalf of Europe. The Treaty is complex and this WIMPS member won't pretend to have read it all (if you really want to, you can find it here), basically it sets up a smaller European Commission, the removal of the national veto in more policy areas and a new President of the European Council. However in a document nearly 300 pages long, no doubt there is more to it than the above. The race is hotly contested and while behind the polls, the "NO" vote is quickly catching up. Certainly it is a interesting debate and race to follow, if you are into that kind of thing!

Any young Irish voters out there, we love to hear from you and get your opinions on the Treaty, the two camps and how the race is going... comments via the forums, an email or in the comments section of this news article.
