SNP win in Glasgow East
Friday 25 July 08

John Mason of the Scottish National Party has been elected Glasgow East MP by 365 votes with a total of 11,277. SNP swung a 13,500 Labour majority from 2005 to win the seat. It was considered the 3rd safest Labour seat in Scotland and had returned Labour MPs to Westminister for nearly 60 years however after the recount last seat it was clear SNP had won.
Coming in 3rd position with 1639 votes were the Tories, however David Cameron has wasted no time and is currently calling for a general election. Much analysis will be done over the coming days on why Labour lost, but certainely the state of the global economy and soaring prices can't have helped the Government and Gordon Brown's cause....
