I think it would be very useful to talk about sectarianism and not just pretend it doesnt exist but since it does look like things are working better right now without mentioning it, it might be an idea to just leave the issue for a while until the tensions are even less. Talking about it will then hopefully come naturally, and practical solutions will appear without being forced.

Robbi - interest in your 'hatred' of the British. What do you mean by 'British'? This is an important question as we tend to use terms in one way which often get understood in another. For example, people often mean the British Army, or the British State when they use this term - however it is often heard as British people - which is how many people in Northern Ireland identify themselves. Indeed many who feel themselves to be Irish carry British passports - does that make them British? The old categories are starting to blur in my view (I have both British and Irish passports and have no real problem with either identity) - so it is interesting to hear you use a term as strong as hatred...

I think that Sectarianism will be a problem for a long time, and won't go away in our own lifetimes, although it may not be as extreme as the few recent cases (I hope). Youth is obviously a big part; most of my friends are unionists although I've been brought up republican, and we can freely talk about this without getting hot headed. It's something that has never been debated.

I think that opinions need to be gathered from all sides - Protestant, Catholic, AOG, Muslim, Atheist... so that they can be looked at and talked about. I'll always be a good friend no matter what my friends' backgrounds are politically, racially or religiously eventhough I still have my views, and in all honesty, still feel a hatred for the British.

I realise that the British are not to be burnt out about it too much - it was a different age when they first came into the island, and I respect that, but there will still be bitterness between all sides, and I doubt that'll go away for a very, very long time, if ever. The main thing is that people work together, but we're no ideal state. It's all just gonna take time, and a hell of a lot of effort =)

Sectarianism is a very real problem still, many people think that it is over but sectarianism still very much exists to this day. Many young people still do not interact with people from "the other side" and get to them and their beliefs better. Integarted education is one of the main ways to solve this in my opinion because if we start to tackle sectarianism serioulsly now then it is one way of making sure that we never go back to the way NI was during the Troubles.
