I think this is an amazing idea, and an amazing opportunity for NI. It would be amazing if there was someone for each constituency, and I'm sure it would make a huge difference, for young people to have an influence in what happens, and the changes.
As well as that, it'd be amazing if people could look at areas of their choice, or two. I'd love to get involved Where exactly could I find information on getting involved?? |

Hey guys,
yea so the 108 campaign is realy exciting but what about those young people who dont care about politics? How do we involve yp who arent already envolved or engaged? How do we make sure that this youth assembly is representative of all yp in N.Ireland. I mean looking at the actual assembly we can see that they dont represent the views of everyone over 18 who can vote. And as ellen was saying what about NINFY?, when NINFY was first announced there was a lot of excitment and enthusiasim because we thought something new and exciting was going to happen for the yp in our small part of the country So why have we suddenly moved away from this to something that may not happen. At the end of the day NINFY will happen and its up to us to influence those working out what its going to be like to make it what we WANT |

I beleve helen that if we buckel down and get some brain-storming done we could make the youth assembly a success. We have done the hard part, now lets get the final strech done

Good news, I already have a list of 10 people from my school who are interested in going and I expect some more will sign up over the next few days. My teacher wants a little more detail about what is actually going to happen. I'll try to get the the next meeting to see what all has already been planned.

Really looking forward to the 108 campaign now I should be able to get plenty of people from school involved. Are there any leaflets about 108 that I could print out for people?

What a brilliant discussion - this stuff is great and exactly what we wanted. As you say Ellen, not many young people know what the 'Network for Youth' plans are, and there is a danger that this becomes another adult driven 'solution' to what they think the needs of young people are. What we are trying to do here is to have an open and public discussion on the options before things get pinned down in dusty rooms
Chris has had a lot of offers of support from MLAs and the interest in the campaign is really growing. Each Monday at 7 between now and 20th, we are having an organising meeting in the Public Achievement Office, 87 Wellington Park, Belfast. Come along if you can or look up the 108 Campaign on Facebook, and stay tuned here. |

Gaele: Gladly MUN stands for Model United Nations, because it is a "Model" of the United Nations. Each person becomes an "honourable delegate" and represents a country. During the debate they voice their countries opinions and concerns on the topic or issue of debate. When debating, countries try to write Solutions (called Resolutions) to the worlds problems, they suggest these to all the countries and try and persuade the other countries to agree to implement those solutions. After debating, everyone takes a vote on whether or not to use the resolution. The entire setup of the UN makes it much more structured and ordered than the likes of parliament, and has advantages over older systems like ours. Ellen: I think to a lot of people the Network for Youth is nothing more than a name. No-one really knows what it does. Unlike the Network for Youth, it is clear what the Youth Assembly will be. People know that like the NI Assembly, the Youth Assembly will be a place were young people can debate the issues facing us today and in the future (but unlike the NI Assembly, hopefully we won't bicker too much about the past) If we have Youth Assembly then it will teach young people how the system works and so they will be more likely to take an interest in it when they are older. A Youth Assembly would be Educational as well as getting young people's opinions heard. When it comes to funding - why doesn't the NINFY fund the youth Assembly? I'm sure something could be done if there were more than 108 people present at the Youth Assembly, but we'll have to see what happens on the 20th November first Oh yes - someone had said about a meeting on October the 23rd which would be about the 108 Campaign. Where and When is this meeting? |

yep ellen, you are right. if the network is done, it also could choose young people among these network to represent them in the youth assembly as well. But how do you think the youth network can be the voice? how will the network be developed? How will be the process of youth network be going on? These all may seem the similar questions... And it seems that you know about the government, so what kind of support they give and in which respect they support?

Hi All,
I'm just wondering why everyone is interested in a youth assembly but not the "network for youth"? In lots of ways the network for youth will have the same role as a youth assembly in that it will be the direct voice of young people to government. I suppose the main difference is that the network aims to involve as many young people as possible, whereas a youth assembly could only involved a small number of young people (108 perhaps?) However, if done well and young people really wanted it and lobbied for it i could see a youth assembly being incoporated into the NI network for youth. At this stage, the network is alreally being supported by government, so in their eyes they are doing something about getting young people's voices heard...I very much doubt that they would fund 2 seperate structures. What are people's thoughts?? |
