Our Goal

To end all so-called ‘punishment attacks’

Why support my campaign?

WIMPS is campaigning to end these brutal so-called ‘punishment’ attacks.

Many of the victims are young people, and this is a huge human rights issue.

According to Police statistics, there were 272 attacks between 2008 and 2010 and almost half of these have been attacks against young people under the age of 24.  The rate of attacks have been rising, and they have been happening mostly in west and north Belfast, and south-east Antrim.

The Police ‘clearance rates’ for these crimes is only 4 percent.  This means the number of cases that have been investigated - not the number of convictions.

Politicians rarely raise the subject.

Media rarely talk about the subject

Yet punishment attacks happen almost every day. Not all are reported.

Our Targets

  • Present campaign to the Policing Board within 6 months
  • 200 Supporters to end Punishment Attacks within 1 month
  • 50 Supporters to end Punishment Attacks within 2 weeks

Campaign Updates

  • Still no response from Matt Baggott’s office

    Posted on January 22nd, 2013

With 2 more attacks last week I will most certainly be pressing the Chief Constable for an interview at the release of the Policing Board’s Human Rights Report.

I first contacted Matt Baggott’s office back to June asking for an interview but despite initially promising correspondence his office have failed to get back with an agreed date ... or to contact me at all.

Here’s hoping the report deals with Punishment Attacks ... Stay tuned to find out more.

Dear [Politician's name],

I am writing to show my support for the "End all punishment attacks" campaign on wimps.org.uk.

This campaign wants to put an end to all so-called 'punishment attacks' within 2 years.

This is an important issue because the police clearance for these attacks is currently only 4% and more than half of these attacks are on young people under the age of 24.  Through a Freedom of Information Act WIMPS have found out that from 2008 - 2010 there were 272 'punishment' attacks of which only 12 were investigated.

I am asking you to give it your support by sending a letter of support; logging on and supporting the campaign on the website; raising the matter in council, Assembly, Westminster or European Parliament.

Thank you.
